YOUR CULTURAL EXPERIENCE
We design our tours to give you the opportunity to experience the diverse cultures of Africa. Our group size contributes greatly to conservation, as fewer people in an area means less impact on the environment. So whether you are sitting round a campfire singing songs with your Tswana guides in the Okavango Delta, or camping in the Shangaan village near the Kruger National Park, you will be in touch with the people who make this such a magical Continent.
QUALITY ASSURANCE
Every effort is made to ensure each and every tour we operate is carried out to the standards laid out in this brochure. Bearing in mind that you have purchased a camping holiday, and for whatever reason you are not satisfied with services provided by the crew en-route, it’s your responsibility to contact us immediately while on tour, so giving us the opportunity to correct the problem or deal with any misunderstanding. We pride ourselves with giving you the best value for money and rely on your input to maintain levels of quality.
SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY & COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT
One of the most critical issues facing conservation in Africa is reconciling the needs of largely disadvantaged rural communities on the boundaries of protected areas with those of the wildlife of protected areas.
We have chosen two projects that we will be supporting in 2008.
Rally to Read
The Bundu Safari Co and Thornhill Safari Lodge are proud to announce our support of the Rally to Read project. We where so excited with the prospect of getting involved with this project that we have decided to offer this opportunity to our friends throughout the world.
The Rally to Read was started in 1998 as a project which invests in the improvement of the efficiency and effectiveness of the teaching of literacy skills in rural schools throughout South Africa. Taking part in the Rally costs R5 000.00 per person. This buys books housed in portable classroom libraries, and funds teacher training costs. Once at the schools, Rally participants meet and interact with the learners and teachers who benefit from the deliveries as well as the subsequent professional development which is provided for three years by The READ Educational Trust.
Four excellent reasons why people get involved in Rally to Read
1. Enormous needs exist.
Within rural education, resources are severely limited and teachers are amongst the least qualified in the country. The reading skill level of the average 16-year-old child in a rural school lags seven years behind that of urban children. With over 50% of the population classified as “rural”, this is a major challenge to the country’s development efforts.
2. Experience Africa at its best.
We travel to beautiful, little-visited parts of the country and are given traditional warm welcomes wherever we stop.
3. The weekend itself is free.
Sponsors are guests of the organisers of the project. All money contributed by Rally partners is invested in the schools. Sponsors witness where their money goes and can track its impact over the 3 years.
4. Gain insight into development issues.
The Rally provides the opportunity for participants to interact with people who deal with survival issues on a day-to-day basis. The efforts of the Rally, although small in the broader scheme of things, provides evidence of the value of working together to solve problems which appear insurmountable to those who are not equipped to deal with the modern economy.
Basic Itinerary
Departing Johannesburg on Friday morning, we spend the evening at Thornhill Safari Lodge bordering the Kruger Park. You have the opportunity to go an optional night drive. We spend the Saturday travelling in convoy to visit schools, hand over the books and meet teachers, learners and parents. This experience provides the opportunity for increased understanding and insight into rural, traditional cultures and life as well as development initiatives. The evening is spent in accommodation in the local area, as guests of the organisers. On Sunday participants have the opportunity to explore the local area. Departing on Sunday we head back to Johannesburg.
Cost R5 000.00 per person
The Bundu Safari Co is sponsoring all vehicle costs for the weekend. Thornhill Safari Lodge is sponsoring the accommodation and meals on Friday night. Your contribution is invested in the schools therefore the sponsors do not make any profit on this project.

AFRICAN IMPACT SUPPORT
The Bundu Safari Company is proud to support African Impact, an African based facilitator of volunteer projects, provides your clients with the opportunity to give their holiday an extra dimension by assisting the local community in Livingstone, Zambia.
Through our uplifting community program they are able to make a real and sustainable contribution to the development and refurbishment of local schools and orphanages.
Our Project: Building and Painting Schools in Livingstone deals with a great lack of facilities.
The aim is to assist with the refurbishment and building of new classrooms for as many primary schools as possible.
In addition, we give schools a good make-over by painting them on both the inside
and outside.
During an afternoon project, clients will assist us by doing the following:
• Carrying water and bricks
• Helping make cement
• Laying bricks
• Plastering walls
• Assisting with re-roofing of run down buildings
• Painting walls and murals
• Cleaning
• Interact with the local children, who always come to help us out
While spending an afternoon assisting with our community development work, our clients will be guided and supported by professional local builders, as well as by an African Impact representative. No building experience is required, anybody can help!
